Flashback Friday - Episode 82, Coaching since 2002
This year, Gay Spirit Camp is one of our six-day summer programs, but in the early days of Easton Mountain "Gay Spirit Camp' referred to our entire series of summer programs. In 2002 it included ten programs that stretched from July 12 through September 2.
Here's the cover of the brochure that was printed to promote that summer series. It includes a paraphrase of one of John Stasio's favorite quotes from the poet Mary Oliver.
That summer saw our first program on coaching, It was called "The Art of Powerful Living" and was led by Harry Faddis, Alfred DePew, and Michael Cohen. It was based on a weekend Harry had facilitated in 2000 at another retreat center. We've had programs on coaching at Easton Mountain every year since 2002.
In May of 2003, the three men who facilitated the coaching retreat, along with Dave Allen and Joe Weston, started the Gay Coaches Alliance. In 2012 they held their first annual coaches conference at Easton Mountain.
Last year we hosted the first program leading to coaching certification, led by the preeminent coaching instructor, Damian Goldvarg.
This year the Coaches Conference will be May 11-14. In addition to coaches and those with a strong interest in becoming coaches, the organizers invite "gay men who do similar heart-centered work – psychotherapists, counselors, social workers, educators, clergy, consultants, non-profit organization leaders, sacred intimates, etc. – who wish to bring coaching skills into their practices."
One week prior to the conference, Damian will lead an intro weekend, "Introduction to Life Coaching," May 5-7.
