About “Making Room”
“From a pioneering advocate for LGBTQ youth, a gripping, impassioned account of how an unhoused queer youth’s murder compelled him to create the nation’s largest housing program for homeless LGBTQ teens.“A gut-wrenchingly poignant real-life saga . . . an unputdownable account of what it looks like when compassion is harnessed to funding and policy.”—Tim Murphy, author of Christodora and Speech Team
““Making Room” is one of the best books I have read in years. I was deeply moved by Carl’s graceful prose, potent stories and inspirational words. I laughed and cried in almost every chapter. It is a piece of queer history, a moving spiritual memoir and a challenge to serve others. Carl, the founder of the Ali Forney Center, brilliantly tells his story of finding Divinity in the homeless youth he served for years” - John Stasio - Easton Mountain Founding Director
